To act as a champion for BRUSH and to promote the company, its products and its name when carrying out commissioning and performance/acceptance testing of large generators, Power Management Systems and their associated sub systems at customer premises.
The role holder will:
- Commission generators and associated control equipment up to 200MVA
- Complete all paperwork associated with installation and commissioning to assure safety and quality compliance
- Conduct fault diagnosis and rectifi cation of control equipment
- Commission generator protection systems by way of either primary or secondary injection
- Carry out electrical testing on high and low voltage windings in the field
- Interpret specifi cations and technical requirements of assignment brief and represent at customer technical meetings
- Train customers’ personnel, and subcontractors in the safe operation of equipment and in diagnosis of faults
- Support and deliver in house training for other members of the service organization and customer facing employees
- Ensure assignments are monitored and delivered in accordance with expenditure and project schedules
- Prepare method statements and risk assessments in relation to client sites
- Effectively communicate and keep updated customer representatives and BRUSH
- Project Managers
- Carry out other reasonable duties as directed from time to time by the Field Service Manager
This is a challenging and important role requiring a high degree of technical competence with a corresponding level of self sufficiency and resourcefulness, as global time differences often mean that factory support is not immediately available. The nature of the work calls for strength of character and physical fitness. Differing assignments may require working alone or as a member of a team.
Qualifications or Functional Experience
- Minimum HNC and a full recognized apprenticeship in an electrical discipline with 5 years site experience OR, preferably, Degree qualifi ed in Electrical engineering with 5 years site experience
- High level knowledge of electrical power generation and distribution systems which should include micro processor systems
- Must be able to accurately interpret Engineering drawings relevant to given assignments
- Certified competent in HV operations – desirable (will be trained)
- Must have a sound knowledge of Health and Safety relevant to on site working and have intimate knowledge of safe systems of work in an HV environment
- Should either possess or be prepared to undergo training for offshore working
System or Knowledge
- Computer literate in Word, Excel and Microsoft Project

- Proven experience in representing the Company at customers sites and operating remotely on own initiative while observing the requirements set down in both the Customer and BRUSH Code of Conduct for Service/Commissioning Engineers and other relevant policies
- Able to work with Companies rules and guidance notes on Health and Safety, including operation of safe systems of work in relation to high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems and work in a heavy industrial environment
- Clear understanding and appreciation of cultural differences with the diplomacy to deliver
- Proactively keeps up to date with technical changes in the industry in order to support customer requirements
- Must have the ability to work to tight deadlines and deliver on time targets

- The role requires extensive overseas and offshore working, often in remote area for protracted periods. Customers include the offshore oil industry, land based power station and Nuclear power stations with stringent Health and Safety requirements
