Czech Republic - Temelin

The two largest turbogenerators produced by BRUSH were supplied to the Temelín nuclear power station in the Czech Republic. The first generator was produced in 1993 and the second in 1996. The first generator was commissioned into service in 2000 and the second two years later in 2002.

The 1000MW generator is a combined hydrogen & water-cooled unit of a design proven in the construction of smaller units. To date, a total of 69 combined hydrogen & water cooled units have entered service, providing a total of over 17GW of installed capacity.

Gas supply system

The gas supply system incorporates the equipment for air scavenging from the turbogenerator with carbon dioxide for first fill and subsequent continuous maintenance of the hydrogen coolant, including hydrogen drying on the "freezing out" principle.

Seal oil system

Shaft seals are of radial type with two oil flows. The seal oil system is formed by the hydrogen system side seals (the oil is in contact with hydrogen) and by the air circuit side seals. The oil circulation in the circuits is secured by pumps. The oil on the hydrogen side is vacuum treated to remove absorbed gas. For the air side of the seals, oil is taken from the turbine oil system.

Water cooling system of stator winding

The circulation of chemically pure cooling water in the stator winding circuit is effected by a centrifugal pump with an identical standby pump. The whole circuit is made of stainless steel material, with the only exception of the copper winding itself.
